So last Friday, December 21st, I went to Atlanta to visit Shane and to go to the Star Bar where Yule Log, various other bands and more importantly - DangerWoman would be making an appearance. I have only seen DangerWoman at DragonCon where she plays to people who make an effort to see her. Here, I was a little afraid that she might not be as well received in a bar full of peeps who wouldn't exactly be "ready" to experience DangerWoman in all her karaoke glory. Fortunately, she went on at 8:30pm - too early for the regular barflies to show up and throw things at her. All in all, despite her making the Marines on stage mad (they were there collecting toys for "Toys for Tots" - it was the admission price to get in the bar), she did rather well. While I was there, I ran into Math Maniac (Danger Woman's accountant) and RoseFire (one of DangerWoman's many assorted reluctant superheros). I had only seen them at DragonCon and they were making a documentary of DangerWoman. After hearing about the complimentary reviews I had about her on my site - they asked me if I would do an interview with them for their video. Wow, a chance to voice how fabulous DangerWoman was? I jumped at the chance. However, the lighting wasn't that great at the bar - and we didn't really have enough time - so we made plans to see them for the next time I am in town. DangerWoman also was selling her wares (CD's, tapes, and TShirts) there and I sat down next to her and talked to her for a bit. She showed me her new calendar. I flipped through it and some of the pics looked awfully familiar. So familiar, that she beamed at me and told me that she used some of the pics on my site to put on her 2002 calendar. At first I was a little miffed (she had not even given me credit for them), but she was selling them for 20 bucks a pop (I doubt many people will shell out that kind of money for calendar with pixalized graphics - even if it is DangerWoman), and she seemed genuinely pleased to tell me that that my pics were worthy enough to be in her calendar. How could I stay mad? I also have the privilege of being called Dawn Marie by her instead of some silly superhero name (everyone else got "named" by her and most didn't really like their names) and that counts for something. She left soon after she sold some things (I was amazed as well by people's generosity) after she told me of her upcoming appearance in 2002 at the Hyatt Hotel. If I had one of her calendars - I would have marked it down.
Jim and Ginger showed up soon afterwards. Jim is not only the lead singer of Grease Paint - but he also dresses up each year on Christmas as Shitty Claus for his other band, Yule Log. I really dug his get up. Kalu was also there with Ginger and they were their usual socialite selves - introducing me to various people we would run into and generally being the life of the party. How could they not? They looked fabo in their "Miss Claus if she worked as a Stripper" outfits. They made me wish I had dressed more festive for the occasion. However, I always like hanging out with the two of them, especially Ginger - they always make me feel right at home regardless of the fact that I don't have any tattoos or obvious piercings protruding out of my face. Yule Log was gonna play pretty late - so we headed out before they went on stage (as did most of our friends). I am sorry we didn't see them play - I hear it was a great show. I spent most of the wee morning hours talking to Shane, Robert and Roger (Shane's roommates) back at the apartment and watched bootleg movies :) All in all I had a fine time. Next time - stay tuned for the pictorial review of the Fantasm Pajama Party.
