So here it is, my words of wisdom to
take you through your day (or
couple of days as you will cut
me some slack on how often I update
this). You can even ask
a specific question to me (via
email - not icq) if you want some
specific "wisdom" from me.

So I completed my first week of school this semester - and of course, you knew I would give you the skinny on what's up with my classes. I am pretty pleased with my schedule this semester - and yes, this time I did double check it to make sure that I am in the right class at the right time. I did start out on the wrong foot, though, as I seemed to have caught the bug going around. I had the flu and was not even able to answer my phone much less drive the half hour to school. But I was betting on the teachers mainly giving out a syllabus and giving the usual yada yada about how their class is infinitely more important than anything you will ever do, period. So I feel like that was a gift from above having to avoid all that crap and pretend to be interested while half my brain falls asleep. As a present to myself for doing so well last semester, and to make sure I didn't fall asleep on the road as I did last time as well, I made my schedule so I didn't have to get up until 8am instead of having to be there at 8am. So I was well rested (and a noticeably safer and less irritable motorist) for my first class of the day - Drawing I. Unfortunately, I was playing "Where did I hide my keys this time" before I left for class, and was late. Not to worry, as I zip in to meekly take whatever seat is available, I run into my teacher who is passing out paper to those with no supplies (yes, I was one with no supplies either). Man, he is a hottie! I don't know what it is about him, but he has these piercing dark eyes that are very hypnotizing. I liked flirting with him, and he even flirted with me back. (No, it's not like that - I am not trying to date my teacher -get real). Anyway, the class is much like you would imagine kindergarten class to be - lots of colors, no note taking whatsoever, and with my poor drawing skills, a lot of artwork that would belong on my mom's fridge - just like when I was five. The class is relatively easy - show up, draw something, get critiqued (a nice word for telling you your work looks like crap) and go home. No homework - except to draw hands and feet to be taken up at mid term. Pretty simplistic, fun, and most everyone is on my drawing level - little to no talent. Then it's off to my computer graphics class. I was really psyched about this one. We are learning Adobe Freehand and Adobe Pagemaker - things I could actually use in my lifetime. Now, I was surprised to find that we would be learning on (gasp) Macs. This totally shot down my whole idea to do homework (now get this) at home, but I was game and found that although it sucks, it's much like a PC - so I easily adapted. If only there were ways to weed out the people that didn't need to be there. Yes, it's another Attack of the Bored Housewives class. There should some sort of pre requisite that says you have been around actual computers before you are let in the class. Luckily, they don't dominate this class, however, they do drag it down. I don't know what happened the first day there, but we spent the better part of an hour learning how to open and close a file. Me and the guy sitting next to me got so bored we actually just opened up the Freehand program (I guess that was going to be learned next week) and started doodling to pass the time. The teacher passed by our computers to see if we had "mastered" the art of saving a file, and was flabbergasted to find a fabulous work of art I like to call "rectangles" and the guy's re-creation of a Tele-Tubby. She just stopped and said something to the effect that we can keep on what we are doing, as long as it isn't disruptive. Kick ass - yet another cool teacher. Now it's on to my third class - Art History I - however, I signed up early to take it on the web. I like classes on the web, they are relatively easy, though I don't recommend taking courses like neuro-surgery on it - just take classes you can use for future cocktail parties you might attend. So far it consists of me writing the teacher to say "hey, where the hell is the url to get to your class" and him responding "Introduce yourself on our message board." So I did, and I am still waiting to find out what's up. There ya have it. Next week, we get to draw things other than paper bags and body parts in Drawing and we get to begin working on a faux magazine cover layout in Computer Graphics. I'll keep ya posted.
