So I could just scream right now at my server. I come home on Saturday to find that not only is webcam32 not working, but half my site has decided to commit hari kari and die. Normally I wouldn't feel so embarrassed as all that would show up would the the much annoying "404 error file not found." But instead, I get to seem like a completely unaware doofus by my title page announcing that it's owner is now "ready" to put something up on the page.

I view all of this like losing certain services in your house and how it looks to the outside world. If you lose your cable, no one has to know. If you lose your power, you can still keep it to yourself without too many problems (aside from cold showers and doing your laundry elsewhere), however, if you lose your phone service - everyone knows. You can't just keep that to yourself that you lost it. People will call and will then immediately get in touch with you through other means to let you know that your phone is dead (as if you didn't already know) and then ask why. What's your response to something like that without looking like a complete doofus? "Hey yeah, I just noticed that my page is offline, but since I know nothing about what my server is doing or what CHMOD is, I guess I will sit around with my thumb up my ass and see if anyone is around on a Sunday to help me with this." umm.. sure, they'll waste their sunday with me to fix the page that expends more of their bandwidth then most of their clients combined. NOT!

Not to say that pearlweb sucks completely on helping me with this. They have helped me on numerous occasions on times that aren't during the normal business day. I have spent a Thursday late nite with Kevin of Pearlweb to help me with my password problems and he laughs with me at my indadequacies to spot these problems on normal business hours.

So now my problems are sorta fixed. I can upload the cam pic, but not as Webcam32.jpg, it now has to be as some other name becuase the permissions are F**ked on that file name - so webpages everywhere with scores of women's cam pics grated to look like the brady bunch opening theme page now have an outdated pic that will stay there until they can meekly ask me what the pic name is so they can continue to steal my bandwidth correctly. That makes me smile. Also, I had to upgrade to Webcam32 version 6.0.1 and I can't figure out how to enter the password I have into it to register it, so unless someone out there in cam land can help me with this prob, I have to restart it every 60 minutes or it goes out.

Not to mention all the pages I had to reconfigure with this cam pic and all the other people out there with their shrines dedicated to just my cam pics and the quick links to the places of interest on my page (you know who you are) are probably going to bitch and moan. But I dont' really care at this point, I need to save the hair on my head that I haven't ripped out so I can have a halfway normal cam pic - I can't have fixed this for nothing.
